Playwright - Stacy Gardner

Stacy was a student of Robert Chafe's Master Playwriting course at MUN (2018), where she completed a working draft of her play-in-progress: Not My Circus, Not My Monkey, and spontaneously chose to write After the Sirens to premiere at St. John’s Short Play Festival. Stacy credits Robert’s enthusiasm and encouragement for his students to ‘take risks’ as one of the reasons why she tackled this subject of this latest work.

Stacy has been facilitating writing workshops for more than 15 years, originally in Toronto, and since returning to Newfoundland. Stacy facilitates in St. John's, and has done so for: WANL, St. John’s Women’s Centre, The Newfoundland Writer's Guild, Women’s Works Festival, and the Neuropsychiatric Patients' Association of Newfoundland Labrador.

Stacy has a professional background in both social services (Covenant House Toronto), and Journalism (Toronto). Stacy wishes to use her playwriting to highlight social issues and raise awareness about systemic flaws and injustices through voices most affected: the vulnerable.

Stacy would like to thank friend and playwright, Heather Debling for her dramaturgical support. Stacy is thrilled and thankful to have both Jenn and Vicki give After the Sirens their talent and tenacity!
